Employer Heroes

Businesses and organizations throughout the region help advance our mission by actively working to increase awareness of how to save and heal lives through organ and tissue donation.

We are grateful to the many companies that inspire their employees to register as donors and provide support for Gift of Life though volunteerism and sponsorship. Together we can make a difference

Promote donor registration in your workplace

Nationally, there are more than 100,000 people waiting for an organ transplant and 17 people die waiting every day. There are about 5,000 men, women and children in our region awaiting a life-saving organ transplant.  Just 1 organ donor can save up to 8 lives and 1 tissue donor can enhance the lives of about 100 others. Imagine what we could do if we all work together to improve donor registration rates.

The most effective way for you to promote donation is to educate and encourage your employees, customers and other constituents to register as an organ donor. It takes less than a minute to register online, or you can register at your local DMV.

Here’s how your company can help:

  • Provide links to register on your web and social media sites. Here is a sample post:

More than 100,000 people in the U.S. are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Register your decision to give the gift of life at donors1.org/registry.

  • Include a link to register as a donor on forms for onboarding and benefits renewal.
  • Include information and a link to register in your intranet, company newsletter and external communications. Feature stories about employees that are transplant recipients, or donors, or are employees who need a transplant.
  • Provide brochures with information on the importance of registering as a donor.
  • Encourage organ donor registration at company health fairs and blood drives.
  • Hold an organ/tissue donor registration event. Some companies have competitions between departments to boost participation.
Become a Gift of Life sponsor

Companies can support Gift of Life by sponsoring one of our fundraising events. Along with helping to save lives, you receive positive publicity and brand awareness. Sponsorship opportunities include:

Donor Dash: This annual event attracts thousands of participants who walk or run with us to celebrate the life-saving impact of organ donation. All proceeds benefit Gift of Life’s charitable Transplant Foundation. Learn more about Donor Dash.

Team Philadelphia: Every other summer Gift of Life organizes a group of transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, and supporters who attend the Transplant Games of America. The Olympic-style event features sports competitions for individuals who have undergone life-saving transplant surgeries. Learn more about Team Philadelphia.

Volunteer opportunities

Giving someone the knowledge to make an informed decision about organ and tissue donation increases the chance that he or she will say “yes” to donation. Your employees can help by volunteering to encourage donation in your community. Learn more about volunteer opportunities with Gift of Life Donor Program.

Your employees may also volunteer at Gift of Life Howie’s House, which offers temporary lodging and support services to people who travel to Philadelphia for transplant-related care. Individuals and co-workers can cook meals, lead activities, host fundraisers and provide transportation to and from the hospital. Each volunteer opportunity presents an engaging and fulfilling way to support transplant patients and their families. Learn more about volunteering for Gift of Life Howie’s House.
