The Gift of Life: Organs & Tissues for Transplant

One person can save or enhance the lives of up to 50 other people through organ and tissue donation. Learn what can be donated to help save a life or give a better quality of life to those in need.

Organs and Tissues

Liver Transplants

Currently, 15,124 people in the U.S. await life-saving liver transplants. In our region alone, 626 people await life-saving transplants.

Heart Transplants

Currently, there are 4,207 people awaiting heart transplants in the U.S. 133 people in our region are awaiting heart transplants.

Kidney Transplants

101,237 people in the United States are currently on the waiting list for kidney transplants. In the Gift of Life service region, 4,943 people are waiting on a life-saving kidney transplant.

Intestine Transplants

In children, the small intestine is often transplanted in combination with the liver, stomach and pancreas – a multi-organ transplant.

Lung Transplants

Currently, 1,540 people await life-saving lung transplants in the U.S. In our region alone, 126 individuals are on the waiting list for a lung transplant.

Pancreas Transplants

Pancreas transplants offer hope to patients with type 1 diabetes. Currently, 1,042 Americans are on the waiting list for a pancreas transplant.

Tissue Donation

While many people are familiar with the idea of organ donation, tissue donation is not as familiar, but is no less a gift of life. The gift of donated tissue can help many people in a variety of ways and the stories of lives changed by generous donors are countless.
