Currently, 15,187 people in the U.S. await life-saving liver transplants. In our region alone, 608 people are on the waiting list for a liver transplant.
Currently, there are 4,223 people awaiting heart transplants in the U.S. 123 people in our region are on the waiting list for a life-saving heart transplant.
108,324 people in the United States are currently on the waiting list for kidney transplants. In the Gift of Life service region, 4,912 people are waiting on a life-saving kidney transplant.
In children, the small intestine is often transplanted in combination with the liver, stomach and pancreas – a multi-organ transplant.
Currently, 1,521 people await life-saving lung transplants in the U.S. In our region alone, 117 individuals are on the waiting list for a lung transplant.
Pancreas transplants offer hope to patients with type 1 diabetes. Currently, 1,045 Americans are on the waiting list for a pancreas transplant.
While many people are familiar with the idea of organ donation, tissue donation is not as familiar, but is no less a gift of life. The gift of donated tissue can help many people in a variety of ways and the stories of lives changed by generous donors are countless.
