Ashlen Moss is alive thanks to the extraordinary gift of a new heart from Jared Kerr, a young man who was always smiling despite a rare illness that kept him confined to a wheelchair. Thanks to the generosity of the Kerr family, Ashlen has gone on to get married and start a family of her own.
“To know my son’s heart is helping this woman live on and have an incredible life, it keeps me going every day,” Rob says.

“This family who I knew nothing about completely changed my life,” said Ashlen, who is now thriving and an avid runner after being diagnosed with heart failure as a teenager. When she first met the Kerrs, her husband Ethan, a nurse, brought a stethoscope so they could hear Jared’s heart beating.
Both families are strong advocates for organ donation and have become friends over the years, attending the 2025 Donor Dash together.

This video is really touching and shows how powerful organ donation can be. Jared Kerr’s heart didn’t just save a life, but it gave Ashlen the chance to build a future and really start her life. At the same time it gives his family a sense of comfort knowing that a part of him is still living on and making a real difference in someone else’s life.
