Emma’s Transplant Journey

Ready to Cheer Thanks to a New Heart

Emma’s transplant journey began at age five when her family thought she had a stomach bug. They were shocked to learn that the left side of her heart was twice its normal size due to Dilated Cardiomyopathy. For the next three years, her condition was managed with medication. But then Emma went into heart failure and received a life-saving transplant at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Thanks to her donor hero, Emma, 13, is thriving in eighth grade. She enjoys having sleepovers with her friends, riding her bike and swimming with her brothers and sisters. She will celebrate the fifth anniversary of her transplant this year and is eager to join the cheer team when she goes to high school.

“We are very thankful for her new heart and will always keep the family that gave us this awesome gift in our hearts.”
