Kidney transplant recipient Xzavier Shockley threw out the first pitch before the 2024 Gift of Life Phillies game. Xzavier started playing baseball when he was five years old and has had a passion for the game ever since. He learned his kidneys were failing at age 10 and was put on dialysis for 10 hours every night. Xzavier continued to play baseball as he waited for a kidney. After surgeries and numerous trips to the hospital, Xzavier received his life-saving transplant in 2018 at Nemours Children’s Health.
