“YOUR KIDNEY IS CALLING,” Jazmin’s life-saving alert

Meet Jazmin Evans — a brave fighter and inspiring health advocate!

Chronic kidney disease affected most of Jazmin’s young adult life. Diagnosed during her senior year of high school, she coped with the condition until age 30 when she finally received her life-saving kidney transplant.

Even while managing her illness, Jazmin’s determination never wavered. She earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees and is now pursuing a PhD. During the start of her doctoral program, she began at-home dialysis — eight hours each night, seven nights a week — for four years.

Then one night, while meal prepping and listening to Beyoncé, her phone lit up with the words she’d been waiting for: “YOUR KIDNEY IS CALLING.” The next day, Jazmin received her gift of life.

Since her transplant, Jazmin has dedicated herself to advocacy — empowering other patients to be their own healthcare champions. As a researcher, she examines clinical algorithms to help ensure fair and equitable assessments.

“I started speaking out because I didn’t see a lot of young, especially Black, women talking about kidney disease — even though so many young people are being diagnosed.”

Jazmin also founded We Got Us, a Philadelphia health pop-up series providing free preventive screenings and education. At a fall 2025 event, they highlighted a kidney waitlist patient who is battling lupus, hosted an organ donor registration drive, and inspired several people to sign up as a donor on the spot!

She’s thriving — even meeting Beyoncé herself! Jazmin recently met Taryn LaSmith, the Gift of Life donation professional who made that life-changing phone call.

Powered by her new kidney, Jazmin is a powerful advocate for organ donation and transplantation.
