My daughter, Katherine Rose Rice was born on September 21, 1991. My daughter Katherine was a smart, caring, artistic young lady with a heart of gold.
She loved working with handicapped adults in special homes, and at the A.S.P.C.A. where she took care of animals, but she especially loved working with cats and kittens.
The quilt made in Katherine's honor is green for her favorite color, kittens for the animals she loved, leaves because she was born in the fall, red and blue buttons were her maternal grandparents favorite colors and her cousins too, ladybugs because I would call her my luv-bug, butterflies because she loved them, and roses because it was her middle name.
When Katherine was younger, she wrote poems and when she was in fifth grade she had a poem published in The Teacher's Selection: Anthology of Fifth Grade Poetry 2002 Edition
Longing for a Home
My life is blocked from the sun and light
Darkness lingers in my heart and eyes
The way I feel is not known to mankind
I feel and see like everyone else.
My heart and mind are torn
Between home and family
Deep down I know I'm more than
A twig on a tree
A face in a crowd
A fish in a pong
I have human – no more no less
We all miss Katherine very much and knowing she is up in heaven on her green cloud with her grandpa and grandma and all of our relatives. We all miss and love you Katherine.
With love always,
Mommy, Margaret Mary Rice
