David was born on February 28, 1980. By all accounts he was truly an angel, a baby who rarely cried and brought an instant smile to everyone’s face. Weighing in at 9 pounds 4 oz, he constantly struggled to open his eyes when the room was bright. As he grew, it was apparent that he was a gentle soul with a great deal of empathy and compassion for others.
He was a wonderful son, brother, husband and father, always helping others in any way he could. David spent his summers at the Jersey shore, where he developed a great passion for the ocean. He also loved the Mummers and paraded with the Jokers NYA every New Years for 22 years. He got an opportunity to combine his two passions when he participated with the Jokers in Fantasy Fest in Key West, Florida. David so loved Key West that he dreamed of making his home there.
Inspired by his early commitment to become an organ donor, David’s family and friends created the David Nelson Jr. Memorial Fund, which awards scholarship money to children of donor parents. More about David and the scholarship are available at www.davidnelsonjrmemorialfund.org. .
