April is National Donate Life Month!
Celebrated in April, National Donate Life Month focuses national attention on every individual’s power to make LIFE possible by registering their decision to be an organ and tissue donor.
Learn about what Gift of Life Donor Program has planned for National Donate Life Month and find resources to help raise awareness for organ and tissue donation throughout the month of April. For the 2019 National Donate Life Month theme, Donate Life America was inspired by bicycles and the phrase “Life is a beautiful ride.”
Like the donation and transplantation journey, a bicycle serves as a symbol of progress, renewal and the moving circle of life. Bicycles come in all styles, shapes and sizes, but each is comprised of the same components, essential to supporting the rider and converting their energy into motion. Similarly, organ, tissue and cornea donation offers many ways to give hope, support and strength to patients waiting, recipients and donor families.
Share the story of a former professional cyclist who was able to return to the sport he loves after receiving a life-saving heart transplant.
The 24th Annual Donor Dash will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2019. The Donor Dash brings more than 10,000 participants together to walk or run in celebration of the life-saving power of donation and honor the donors who make it possible. Online registration closes Tuesday, April 9, but participants can still register at the event.

National Pediatric Transplant Week
National Pediatric Transplant Week takes place the last full week of National Donate Life Month in April. It focuses on the powerful message of ending the pediatric transplant waiting list.
Currently, nearly 2,000 children under the age of 18 are on the national transplant waiting list. More than 500 of the children waiting for transplant are between 1 and 5 years old. Consider sharing your story to help promote the need for more donors to end the pediatric waiting list.
