Quick facts about the U.S. Transplant Games
- It is the largest sporting event in the world for people who have received life saving transplants.
- The event is organized every other year nationally by the National Kidney Foundation and locally by Gift of Life Donor Program with three main goals: to raise awareness about the need for organ and tissue donation, to honor donor families and to demonstrate that transplantation works.
- The first U.S. Transplant Games was held in 1990 with 400 athletes and 600 supporters. At the 2006 Games, 2,000 athletes and 7,000 supporters were in attendance.
We are now in the process of recruiting new team members from the transplant community to join the largest and most successful team that participates in the U.S. Transplant Games - Team Philadelphia.
