Saving Lives is Beautiful Gospel Competition & Program
The first-ever Saving Lives is Beautiful Gospel Competition and Program was held on Sunday, July 31, 2016. Thank you to our host, Praise 103.9's Dezzie and local gospel artist Keturah Duncan who headlined the show.
Gift of Life Donor Program will celebrate National Minority Donor Awareness Week (August 1-7, 2016) to honor the generosity of multicultural donors and their families, while also underscoring the critical need for minority communities to register as potential organ and tissue donors. Nationally, minority communities represent 25% of the population, but represent a startling 58% and more of those waiting for a life-saving transplant. In Gift of Life’s region, more than 50% of those waiting for a kidney transplant are minorities.
African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans comprise 58 percent of those currently waiting for life-saving transplants in the United States. As that number continues to grow, Gift of Life encourages those in our region’s communities to take action and register to help save lives.
August 1-7, Gift of Life celebrates “National Minority Donor Awareness Week” (NMDAW) by encouraging the African American, Asian and Hispanic communities to discuss donation wishes with their families, friends and congregation members--and most importantly, to register as a donors.
As part of this effort to raise awareness within these communities, Gift of Life Donor Program’s Multicultural Affairs Committee hosts the annual Free Gospel Program with members of the local gospel community coming together to help sing the praises of donation and help highlight awareness in the minority community.
Our Free Gospel Program is held annually to raise awareness of the critical need for more organ and tissue donors in African American and Latino communities. The event is not a fundraiser and we do not charge admission. It is an opportunity to honor families who have given the gift of life through organ donation and celebrate with those who have received a lifesaving transplant. The event is held annually to commemorate National Minority Donor Awareness Week.
Add your voice to our ECHO!
Every Community Has Opportunity (ECHO) is a new campaign launched in 2015 by AMAT. We are participating in a big way by adding our voices to the ECHO! Philadelphia County has the lowest organ donor designation rate in our area and this needs to change. Add your voice to our ECHO by posting a photo on social media using #ECHOPhilly!
Highlights from the 2015 Gospel Program:
The crowd of nearly 600 worshipers was electric all night, singing along and dancing with the performers while also learning about the important of organ and tissue donation, especially in minority communities. Headliner Anthony Brown & Group TerAPy rocked the house and put on a great performance along with bands, local gospel choirs, praise dancers, and much more. (See the videos below!)
A special thank you goes out to Gift of Life's Multicultural Awareness Committee, which organizes the event each year. This important event helps the group to continue their work to educate their communities about the critical need for organ and tissue donors, both in August and throughout the year.
Gift of Life offers educational materials, speakers and resources free of charge to promote organ and tissue donation in communities in our region.
