Cardiomyopathy
An enlarged heart that no longer pumps effectively. It often occurs with no known reason or cause, and, in that case, is referred to as idiopathic cardiomyopathy.
Organ Procurement and Transplant Network
The national transplant waiting list and organ allocation system established by the National Organ Transplant Act of 1984.
United Network for Organ Sharing
United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) is a non-profit, scientific and educational organization that administers the nation's Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) under contract with the Federal Division of Organ Transplantation. All patients awaiting transplants in the U.S. are placed on the waiting list through UNOS, and all organs are allocated to patients based on UNOS policies.
