"Threads of Love" Donor Memorial Quilt: Quilt 57
Michael was a kind sweet loving soul, loved to laugh and to make people laugh and would do anything for anyone. Michael suffered with the disease of addiction had been clean and relapsed. Michael was on a ventilator for 3 days when they told us there was no hope he was so vibrant, active and full of life I knew he would not want to live that way. I had never thought about organ donation but for some reason, maybe it was Michael whispering in my ear, I knew that if he could help someone else that is what he’d want to do. He would want to give someone the most precious gift of all and the last gift he could. I chose the color purple because it is the color for overdose awareness and I chose the poem because it fits our relationship perfectly he was my whole world and I know he loved me more than anything. The picture of him when he was a little boy has always been one of my favorite pictures and the other picture was taken in the last weeks of his life. I struggle every day without Michael but I never gave up on him and he didn’t quit and those are the words I hear him telling me when I want to quit. I know there are 4 people out there somewhere that he has given a second chance at life. I hope to hear from them all someday and maybe even have the honor of meeting them. What a gift it would be to hear his heart beating again. It is such a wonderful thing to know that his patch will be memorialized forever on a quilt he is loved and missed by so many, he will never be forgotten.
