"Threads of Love" Donor Memorial Quilt: Quilt 57
George S. Barkos Jr.
To George, the American flag signified commitment, duty, and freedom. During his four years at Penn State, he participated in ROTC which resulted in his enlistment into the Air Force during the Vietnam War. After serving, George committed himself to voting in all elections, except one, which wasn’t his choice and to expressing himself through written correspondence to legislators.
Unlike his family males, he put aside guns and shot with a camera. He enjoyed taking pictures of family affairs, Mother Nature, his gardens, and travel sites. His favorite form of travel was cruising.
The record player symbolizes his love of music whether it was dancing to it, listening to his wife play the violin, or maintaining a hobby of record collecting.
Of course, no one will forget that George’s favorite drink was coffee. He prepared it at home, at the office, the family reunions, anywhere.
Committed, courageous, courteous, caring and certainly handsome are the qualities that will be remembered by many.
