Giving Life a Second Chance
Through Organ & Tissue Donation

Team Philadelphia Preps for US Transplant Games

Gift of Life is organizing the next group of transplant recipients, living donors, donor family members and supporters for the 2010 U.S. Transplant Games. From July 30 to August 4, 2010, Team Philadelphia will be in Madison, Wisc. giving it their all and sharing more experiences with others who have also found their second chance through a life-saving organ transplant.

And we want you to get involved and join the team! All transplant recipients, donor family members and living donors throughout our region are invited to be a member of Team Philadelphia 2010.

The first team meeting takes place on Saturday, December 12 from 1-4 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge. This will be the first opportunity to hear all about the exciting experience that is the U.S Transplant Games.

Sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation, the biennial Games raise national awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation and illustrate the success of transplantation. The athletes compete in various events including track and field, swimming, basketball, volleyball, tennis, ping-pong and dozens of other individual and team competitions. And cheering them on are members of donor families, numbering in the hundreds, whose decision to support donation saved the lives of many just like the athletes.

In 2008, the 500-strong Team Philly competed in Pittsburgh and proved just how powerful the gift of life can be. It was a tremendous success, with more than 100 medals won and Team Philly being the largest team at the Games. And we know next year's team will be just as extraordinary!
