Referral Intake Specialist
Gift of Life Donor Program, the non-profit agency serving eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware, is responsible for recovering and distributing organ and tissues used in life-saving and life-enhancing transplants.
This is an entry level opportunity for a newly experienced recent college graduate who desires to learn, grow and be a part of the organ donation, recovery and allocation team. The Referral Intake Specialist receives and triages all incoming phone calls to GLDP, triages and transfers business calls to proper GLDP staff member and processes clinical calls from hospitals and other health care providers. Triages all calls related to deaths and organ/ tissue referred to GLDP; Screens all referrals to determine suitability as organ or tissue donor, notifies transplant coordinator on-call of all organ referrals; Initially screens all tissue referrals to determine suitability, notifies in-house coordinator of all referrals that are suitable; Documents all referrals received and enter them into GLDP computer system; Properly delegates all calls with organ offers from other Organ Procurement Organizations to correct GLDP staff member. Properly delegates all calls with organ offers to any other OPO for which GLDP is covering; Obtains outcome and completes data entry of PENDING referrals; Assists Department management and the In-house Coordinators with handling of phone calls, mail, correspondence, requests for research donor charts, donor cultures and telephone messages; Assists with final compilation of local and import organ donors charts, eye and/or tissue donor charts; performs an initial quality assurance check of charts that they compile; Works with tissue processors or eye banks to determine final outcome of referrals shared with those agencies; Works with tissue processors or eye banks to determine final outcome of referrals shared with those agencies. Works with local, regional, and national transplant centers to obtain recipient follow-up information and enters such information to GLDP computer system.
You must be able to work both 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on a rotating basis, in 8-week intervals.
Bachelor degree in biology or a health related field of study plus one year of related work experience or an Associate degree in a health related field plus four years work experience required.
