Gift of Life Offers Condolences for Boston Victims, Increases Security for Dash on Sunday
18th Annual Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Will Remain a Celebration of Life
PHILADELPHIA, PA--Gift of Life Donor Program extends its deepest sympathies to all those who were affected by the tragic events at this week’s 117th Annual Boston Marathon. With the 18th Annual Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness approaching on Sunday, April 21st, Gift of Life is keenly aware of the need for well-planned and thorough security surrounding the event. The Dash will take place as scheduled, as Gift of Life works hand-in-hand with the City of Philadelphia and external security operations to make the event as safe and positive an experience as possible.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the participants, families and friends who suffered losses and injuries at the finish line of the Boston Marathon,” says Gift of Life President and CEO Howard M. Nathan. “I want to assure each of you who have registered for this Sunday's Gift of Life Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness at the Art Museum that the event will take place, and that we have contacted officials in Philadelphia to review all plans and are working with event and security specialists.”
“We look forward to Sunday so that we can demonstrate our support for our fellow athletes and all of their friends and families who were in Boston, many of whom were there to run for charities. Please join us on Sunday with your family and friends as we honor donors, transplant recipients, and our partnering healthcare professionals to celebrate the ‘Gift of Life.’”
The Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness raises funds annually for organ and tissue donation. With more than 6,500 men, women and children in our region still awaiting life-saving organ transplants, it’s important for Gift of Life to let others know about the critical need for more registered donors through events like the Dash. This year’s 18th Annual Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness will be held on Sunday, April 21st, 2013, starting at 8:30am on West River Drive along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA.
